Hyped Heroes: Pixi Glow Tonic

There are so many beauty products in the world that are incredibly hyped and within the hype lies some fantastic picks as well as some not so good... For a new mini-series hyped heroes I want to share some of my favourite products that truly live up to the hype. First up is Pixi Glow Tonic!

So, what makes it so hyped? Pixi has been one of those slightly edgy beauty brands for a while, but it really picked up when Caroline Hirons wrote about the virtues of glow tonic five years ago, which caused the product to sell out even faster (she now works with the brand so you know she made the stock fly) and then every blogger jumped onto the hype and it became one of those cult favourites very quickly. There used to be a waiting list for this and I believe the brand had some major production issues as they couldn't make it fast enough to keep up with the demand. Fast forward to now and it's a lot easier to get hold of (phew).

What are the ingredients? Number one would be 5% glycolic acid, which is an AHA that exfoliates the skin (although I've heard it's one of the cheapest one for brands to buy, take that as you will) which is what makes this product so effective. Used daily, the glycolic acid gently removes dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin so it's good for dryness, blemishes and discolouration. It also has aloe vera to soothe the skin and ginseng to 'energise'. It has no alcohol, no parabens and none if the ingredients have been tested on animals.

Why is it a hero? It's a great way to add some skin-loving acids into your skincare routine if you're new to the confusing world of AHAs, retinols and chemical exfoliators. It's also pretty mild, so I'd say anyone could use it without irritating the skin and it will deliver noticeable results within a week or so of daily use. I used a bottle before and wasn't blown away because I was expecting a more impactful skincare-tingle-facemelt situation, but it's far gentler than that and actually does gentle exfoliation repeatedly. It also means subsequent skincare products apply more effectively, so it's a no-brainer in my opinion.
